Dive Into the New Age of Sustainable Fish Farming
Low on energy and optimized fish logistics
Crystal clear water from the mountains is led in pipes into the factory under high pressure. The fish farming facility is built on shelves in four different levels which give a very efficient flow of water and fish downstream through the growth phases. Bringing fish and water downwards will save energy and contribute to a very smoothe fish logistics.
Circular economy and sustainability
The water will be reused several times, 99% recirculation in the fish tanks, and the 1% that each hour will go out of the RAAS system where the sludge is separated from the water.
The sludge will be dried and led through a pyrolyzes operation and transformed into very valuable bio-char. This bio char operation will be supplemented by collecting waste from a number of other local sources as livestock feces, wood and other organic materials. This will collect significant amounts of CO2 and contribute to a very green production.
Nutricious water to a green house
We will lead the remaining water into a greenhouse introduce BECCS – Bioenergy with Carbon Capture.
This is called Controlled environmental agriculture (CEA). Vertical farming takes place in a controlled environment where all conditions required for growth are supplied, including: lighting, water, nutrients, with environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration, all closely controlled. These systems use hydroponics – this is a type of soilless cultivation method where the plant roots are exposed to a water and nutrient solution - here; the water from the RAS.

Science and visitor center
This facility will be a unique example of circular economy in a real context. We will share this by visitors and students to see this in real live. The area is one of the major tourist sites in Norway and Upstream want to share this with locals and guests visiting the region.
